When you start it totally helps to understand food first of all. For a total beginner it helps to understand what gives you a lot of protein and what only fat. What has a lot of kcal and what doesn't. Stuff like that helps. Then it helps you to measure your food per day. You get a better feeling of what is a lot and what isn't. 2 burger at McDonalds, some bread and a juice is already heavy in kcal. Usually one would say that he ONLY ate these things but it can bring you already over the amount of being in a kcal deficit. Also: It helps to cheat! I love to eat some candy from time to time but i track it and would still stay in my deficit. That's perfect because it makes it all easier when you allow yourself some stuff. At the end it's a mind game. If you REALLY want to lose fat, you do everything to reach your goal - including tracking your food every time. If you are not that serious about it you will hate tracking. But that is also ok! Do whatever makes you happy! Even if it means that you got some more fat on you OR that you want to do everything to lose it. It's that simple ...

Jahresziel #1 erreicht! 5km Lauf für Unternehmen im Sommer kann kommen und dann muss ich die Zeit von unter 21min nur dort nochmal auf die Strecke bringen. Verfolgt eure Ziele! Bleibt dran, egal wie lange es dauert!

Yes, just accept it and keep clean eating afterwards. Take these family partys and stuff as they are: quality time with your family. Enjoy them. It is not the once per month party which makes you fat - it's what you eat on normal days. Just enjoy holidays and take them as quality time with family and friends and see them as cheat days. I recommend videos by Jeff Nippard for a good understanding for a good diat.
