No, it doesn’t have to be connected as a remote connection first. What wallet are you connecting it to? We’re saying that if you’re inputing the NWC string from the new NWC service feature, it won’t work.

NWC Lightning address mode is for remote connections. For the embedded node you either want Zaplocker or Cashu mode.
