Read my mind. My next project.
Turns out I don't know what I'm talking about ... yet.
I just started looking into it. My initial plan would be pretty hackey. I'm curious what hardware you got coming. bitchat and meshtastic are apparently both available for Linux. It could be as easy as getting them running on the same board (Raspberry Pi or whatever) and writing something to act as a go-between. It would be fun to work with someone on it.
Dude, its hilarious. I see all these posts about kids going to school in the dark. People freaking out. At this point, we should all be on UTC anyway.
Ha! To be fair, we typically had bigger fish to fry. Once the family is taken care of, we can look around a little.
Anybody doing relays for bitchat? I mean like physical bluetooth repeaters to extend the range. Does that even make sense?
This is big. I've been thinking about it a lot lately prompted by some disingenuous claims in or around bitcoin. The slow and steady approach of building strong relationships seems to me to be the only way to do this thing right. Stretch your time horizons out 100s of years, what actions could you take now to set up your kids for success?
Hey everybody, I'm Dave. I just left my fiat job as a mechanical engineer building -80deg freezers for NASA. I did that for the last 14 years. I don't like saying it out loud but I would consider myself an expert in heat transfer, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, mechanical design, manufacturing and stuff like that. I want to start using my powers for good. I've been thinking about mining and the issues around the uses of waste heat. If you are also thinking about these things or perhaps have a specific project in mind, I'd love to connect. I'm not a big fan of social media, even nostr, so DM me. We'll set up a call and actually speak to one another. If you know of any groups dedicated to energy or building physical things, I'd also love to here about it.
What is that?
I have been considering doing hosted mining for the past few days. I couldn't get past the question: Why would a company choose to host my miners for a fee rather than just mining themselves? I think I may have figured it out but maybe I'm missing something. Lately, the network hash rate has been increasing by 250M TH/s per year. I calculated a simple payback period of around 5y for most of the hosted miners I looked at. By then, those miners wouldn't be profitable any more. Anybody else looked into this?
