To keep the dollar relevant as a payment system. I think they would prefer to anchor to bitcoin over gold because as a country I think we own a bigger percentage of the supply. Bitcoin will still win and replace the dollar long term, but this is how they will try to buy 10-20 years of keeping the dollar around.

Had this thought in 2022 but seems more and more plausible as time goes on, tether replaces the federal reserve and USDT replaces the FED dollar.
