For more context 👇 Each year, the 🇫🇷 Government submits a finance budget bill to Parliament, which sets the revenues and expenditures for the coming year. Members of Parliament or Senators may submit amendments and vote first on each article and amendment before voting on the entire bill. To be adopted, a bill must be passed by both the National Assembly and the Senate in an identical version. The amendment in question was tabled by LFI (far-left) group and was accepted by the Senate on October 20, 2025, thanks to broad support spanning from the left to the far-right. To become law, the amendment must still be voted in its identical form by the National Assembly, and the final version of the 2026 finance budget bill in its entirety must also be adopted by December 31st at the latest. The amendment is as follows: 1) For French nationals, 2) whose income exceeds €230,000, 3) who resided in France for at least three years out of the ten years preceding their change of tax residence, and 4) to a country with a tax rate more than 40% lower than that of France. This is not (yet) correct. The proposed amendment was voted by the assembly. To be accepted, it still needs to be voted by the senate, and even then the overall budget law 2026 needs to pass. The same thing happened several times before with a proposed amendment to tax “unproductive assets” and ended up being scraped from the final text. https://primal.net/e/
