On April 25, 2026, organized a Meetup in Maputo with around 47 people present. It was a strong proof-of-work moment for our community: practical learning, real questions, live wallet demonstrations, and deep discussion about Bitcoin, , , privacy, custody, and circular economies. This meetup was not only about using an app. It was about understanding how and can help level up humanity with Freedom Technologies. Bitcoin gives us better money. Lightning gives us fast payments. gives communities a way to coordinate custody. brings communication, payments, and community tools into one experience. We started with history. In the 1970s and 1980s, cryptographers were already worried that digital technology and the Internet could become tools of surveillance. They understood that privacy was not secrecy. Privacy was security for people. In 1982, David Chaum introduced early ideas around ecash and privacy-preserving digital money. In 1993, Eric Hughes wrote A Cypherpunk Manifesto, reminding the world that privacy is necessary for an open society in the electronic age. explained Guardians and the idea of federated multi-signature onchain community custody. Guardians are not a company. In the best grassroots model, they are trusted community node runners who serve their local community with responsibility, transparency, and care. We also explained what a Federation is: community custody that can be cheaper, more accessible, and more private for people who are still learning Bitcoin. A federation has key components: Guardians, a hosting service, and a Lightning Gateway. The Lightning Gateway helps connect the federation to the wider Lightning Network, while ecash inside the same federation can move with fewer fees. A very important part of the meetup was user security. Bitcoin Famba explained the importance of the 12 backup words to restore the wallet and the importance of the app PIN. Freedom tools are powerful, but users must learn how to protect their access and understand the trust model they are using. The practical workshop was the highlight. Participants used the app to send ecash via private chat. We circulated sats around the room using ecash and the Lightning Network. also demonstrated interoperability between apps and Conduit through the Lightning Network, explaining that Lightning transactions through a Gateway can have fees, while ecash transactions inside the same federation can be cheaper. We also explained the difference between a Community and a Federation in the app. A community is the social layer. A federation is the custody and mint layer. Understanding this difference helps people know where their money is, who the guardians are, and what responsibility each part of the system has. The Q&A session was very honest and important. People asked if federation mints can rug pull users, how users can be sure that the collateral sats represent full reserve for the ecash circulating, and whether Fedimints could turn Bitcoin into something similar to banks. These questions are necessary. Real adoption must include education about trust, risk, reserves, transparency, and community responsibility. During the breaks, the community networked, shared ideas, helped each other with phones and apps, and strengthened relationships. This is how grassroots Bitcoin adoption grows: not through hype, but through education, practice, repetition, and trust.
