Tis the season

I’ve had the same over-ear headphones for 5 years now, apparently. Replaced the ear pads 2x now, and just replaced the headband for the first time bc the leather was peeling. Think I can get another 5y out of these bad boys - take care of your things and they’ll take care of you.

Nostr and cryptographic identity are progress against the explosion in bots. Seems to me that certain people will never see the value of online friends bc the way they interact w friends is inherently irl. Those that see the value are likely to occupy themselves with ideas and find fascination with the feedback that an extended social group can provide. For those that get it, I don’t think the value of online friends will ever change, only the mode through which the interaction occurs.

Plenty of great comments from people with more experience on the topic in the replies to this, but the part about justifying the existence of the child’s life to them as a parent stands out to me. Though life cannot be formed without parents, I don’t think it’s the place of a parent to justify to their child why they exist. Life is what you make it, and everyone has a journey to justify their existence to themselves. I remember being a cynical teenager and having that cliché view that expectations of me were illegitimate because I never asked for this life. Now I view life as a gift, and do not live for expectations, but instead to realize my calling and build a life according to my values. The chance to self-actualize is a gift. Even if you feel that imposing a fucked up world on a child is cruel, consider children that are born with disabilities or diseases. They’re not even burdened by external factors, their burden is genetic. Is their existence tragic? You may feel that way, but experience is subjective, and maybe things you take for granted are their gift, and maybe that’s enough for them. Maybe it’s enough for them to just see colors, or hear music, or have whatever social interaction, or whatever it is. Mentioning genetic disorders is probably not the best way to encourage someone who’s worried about uncertainty, so sorry 😭 but the topic started to bother me and I had to write out my thoughts.

I can’t help you, but I can say that I used Primal’s imposed switch to a different wallet as the push I needed to try alternatives both to their client and wallet. I’m on Damus now and use Zeus for the wallet through NWC. There’s a bit more friction involved, but the Zeus wallet offers self-custody that doesn’t depend on Spark. On the KYC side, the Spark wallet still requires a name and email, Zeus doesn’t. Maybe an interesting alternative for you.
