actually, moxie's problems are going to come from programmer errors about liveness. the bug classes you will see in moxie code will be deadlocks, live locks, spinning and unhandled failures. but the tradeoff it makes for that is that you stop thinking about the program as a... well... script, or linear sequence, you have to think about how the code interacts at the seams between the units. moxie doesn't allow sharing, so where it gets more difficult will be that it forces you to architect before you build. i think that's a worthwhile tradeoff, but most programmers won't. the thing is, the programmers job now, with AI, IS architecture. the algorithms are less important. they matter in small places but not as much as the architecture.

yeah, it's not going to be a popular language because it doesn't let you think about software the way you are used to. it makes you think about software the way the machine needs to have it expressed. it's a common opinion among programmers that convenient abstractions make a language better but incorrect abstractions cause bugs. the abstractions of C led to stack overflows. the abstractions of Go lead to race conditions. the abstractions of Moxie are as thin as they can be and model the processing instead of the way of thinking about it.

as a long time student of computer and machine languages, my argument runs like this: the language should articulate the relationships and architecture of the hardware. a machine language that matches the machine better is one that a machine will reason about better to build the software. that's what https://git.smesh.lol/moxie is about. moxie is a programming language that models a computer as a distributed system of multiple, communicating processes, just as a CPU is a distributed system of processors, connected by a bus and drowning in a complex array of caches designed to simulate a von neumann machine. the hardware itself is trying to protect a fiction that has been out of date since the first time a motherboard had two CPU slots on it.

#moxie is almost done, at least as far as it successfuly builds the smesh web app and moxie version of the orly relay. tomorrow i will be bumping my VPS for another month and deploying https://smesh.lol again, which is a demo of the nostr web app code i have written, including a relay proxy which fetches and caches events for the presentation layer, and the relay itself. tomorrow i will be testing the app and ensuring it all works correctly, and finally i will be able to switch back to it, and sweep a few standing bugs in it that led to me not running it anymore. i had changed moxie too much already 2 months ago to keep bug fixing it, the compiler was in a state of flux still, and now it is practically settled and complete. all the memory runtime is working correctly now, on the new model, with the actor/CSP architecture, compiles nicely to amd64 and wasm32 code and runs apps in browser and on a linux system. the big reason why i'm focusing on this now is not unrelated to the contracts i have got to complete, because both apps require web front ends, and the moxie front end system is mostly complete on teh nostr side, the work required there was part of both of the contracts i have got to complete over the next few months. one is an atomic swap client, and the other is an app something like a hybrid of bandcamp and discogs, with full collaborative features for people in the music business, including live and recorded music, retail of digital formats, forum, sales of physical items and ticketing, as well as logging and enabling collaborative recording of information about all of these things. will be lots of fun, and having a fast and secure language base to build these on the work will progress fast because one of the goals of moxie is this: build the parts once, build it right, and enable it to be composed like you assemble lego. i have my own personal projects still on the horizon, but for those moxie is also foundational. i will be working on iskra translator, a lattice based semantic lattice data engine that has already achieved substantial translation accuracy in english/japanese, and i have some new algorithms to add to it that will allow it to brute force solving how to translate the remaining round trip failures correctly. ultimately, iskra will be a full artificial intelligence system, and translation is the base layer of a useful artificial intelligence, and the simplest problem, creating 1 to 1 perfect round trip capable translations with a machine using an algorithm that is low compute and can even run inside a web application, but completely offline, not needing to query a big server, the user's system downloads the lattice, and runs arbitrary translations with equal or better quality as big tech translation services. it's just the proof of concept of the engine, which can learn independently, be expanded and used by users and eventually will also be able to share lattice fragments peer to peer so that users wlll be able to make it the best translation system available on teh internet. inference is a subsequent step, and requires more complex access patterns to translation, translation is just finding paths and word order transformations that achieve a round trip translation, into one language, and back, exactly as it was originally, inference is where you start with a prompt, and then generate a useful answer to questions or commentary on statements. the inference/generative work requires more complex algorithms. i'm going to be referencing the transformer architecture and the attention heads, and transforming this into algorithms that walk the semantic lattice to generate answers. it also requires further abstractions in the data structure of the lattice, phrases and sentences and even paragraph templates that populate out of inputs using attention to pick up the relevant nodes in the lattice to generate. it's a lot of work. but the fact it can already translate, directly implies that the remaining work is compositional, and will build on top of what it can already do.
