Okay, fine. Iām sorry I drew a dick on your avatar that one time.
If you send me one Zap Iāll send you two zaps back.
David Callum is going to giggle at all of us when the Knots vs Core argument turns out to be the FBI spook implementation vs the CIA spook implementation or something wild like that. š
Fair enough. For more context, itās estimated that outdated software is responsible for about 60% of data breaches (https://www.ninjaone.com/blog/it-horror-stories-why-unpatched-software-hurts-business/), because itās relatively easy to target known vulnerabilities once they are discovered. The Knots approach may or may not be the best solution, butāto meāit seems fair to at least make an effort to add an automated way to close the security hole caused by outdated software.
That video is absolutely insane in so many ways.
Hereās some context that you may find useful: Itās not exactly a kill switch, though it could be viewed as similar. If the node runner does not update the Knots software for a number of years (five years, I believe) it displays a dialogue that asks the user if they would like to continue running the old software. If the user answers no or does not respond, Knots automatically shuts down. This timer resets when the node runner updates the software. So most people never see it. The reason this is in the Knots software is becauseāat some pointāoutdated software becomes a security issue (to be clear: not a security issue for the Bitcoin network, but for the node operator). Additionally, if the user has not updated their node software in a number of years, itās probably a node they left running in their basement or something and forgot about. So Knots turns off once it becomes outdated, unless the node runner explicitly tells it to keep running. Not making an argument for or against any node implementation or telling anyone what to do. Just a better explanation of how the function works in practice and my understanding of why itās in the Knots software.
Youāre gonna marry a lurker.
Somebody should tell Eric or Amir to put some sort of āgive us moneyā button on one of their websites.
I default zap any Princess Bride meme.
I guess heās actually into you. Just playing hard to get.
Wen phones stop autocorrecting āsatsā to āsaysā?
At least the imperial system vs metric system debate has been settled.
Actually, , do you know where I can send some sats to support Libbitcoin development?
What review and release process would you consider sufficient to recommend Knots or any other implementation?
Upgraded my Bitaxe for the party, .
I will never not zap a āFight Clubā reference.
Everything you know will eventually be proven wrong.
Agree. Itās been clear that gaming GPUs are an Nvidia side business for several years now.
But how will my kids get sick no-scope 360 headshots after Iām gone!?
