Always wanted to serve a higher purpose and leave the rural area I lived in. Early 90’s so there was limited mission and a lot of people working harder to get out of work then do the work. This jaded me and I left after five years wondering why any employer would hire a veteran. Vowed never to work government again because work ethic gets you more responsibilities without compensation while others making more or the same ride your efforts. Entered civilian workforce and found it was the same but lacking discipline. Went back to government as California Highway Patrol officer. The pension provided was something I didn’t think was possible and I was able to serve people again. At academy during 9/11. The toughest decision in my life was the decision to stay and not go back into military. Looking back, it was the right decision but at the time I felt much guilt. Now I pray my kids don’t feel the need to step into the breach for violence on behalf of nameless faceless elites. I will give Bitcoin to entice another decision. 😎
