Dogs aren't optional here in magical realism south of the Americas They are pretty much mandatory. You would get assigned a dog even if you don't want it. Dogs rule this. I have two that are not even mine but they hang out in my garden. It is like they just want to serve my family, I don't even feed them. If I go for a walk they come. I can't do anything to prevent it. Then you also see them in the streets. Normalise them. Just animals. Not like those I've seen in Europe completely humanised, educated, trained, with friends and going to school. So you perhaps just say "hi". But most of the times they are just dogs doing dog things around. They are not allowed into cafés (not many cafés around either) or stores. You might see the clerks just waving and shooshing them out. I write this because I went to the neighborhood little shop to buy some groceries and I saw a couple of them around. Even I saw my neighbour's dog, that I thought it was also mine, because he spends a lot of time in my garden, in the shop entrance, guarding there. Anyway. What is a dog
