If you look at the data, the foundation for our high literacy and healthcare was laid decades earlier by the Syro-Malabar/Catholic Church, other Christian missions, and Hindu reform movements like the SNDP/NSS. They built the schools (#pallikoodams thanks to the movement by St. Chavara, inter alia, and hospitals when the state was nowhere to be seen. And ofcourse, I'd definitely credit the human centric infrastructure development approach of the #Travancore monarchs too. In reality, Communist policies like militant unionism and 'Nokku-kooli' actually crippled our industrial growth. Illogical attempts to nationalise educational institutions have only backfired + the so-called land redistribution actually destroyed the agricultural economy of the state, making it unjustifiably dependent on neighbours on basic stuff like grains, vegeies and even clothes. We have high #HDI (thanks to charities), but we don't have jobs to match (thanks to commies)—which is why everyone has to leave for the Gulf or Europe. In essence, we didn't 'become great' because of Communism; we've survived despite the economic stagnation their policies created, largely thanks to religious private institutional missions and the army of non-resident #Malayalis created as a result undertaking global remittances.
