I don't follow politics and I didn't vote in the last 2 elections. I used to, but I don't believe anymore it makes any difference. This year alone in the EU I've watched private messages cleared for scanning (chat-control), passport-gated government-backed social-media (wsocial), introduction of the Digital Euro, more financial surveillance (DAC8/Mica), unrealized capital gain taxes (NL) and more ALPR/face recognition camera's being deployed (IPolice). The reason given is usually protecting children or catching criminals - But I think this is just marketing. Most european governments are financially indebted and want more visibility and control over what people do, say and spend beyond the consent of their citizens. I don't agree with this direction and I do not consent to it. I don't consent to my location being tracked, my money being controlled, my opinion being censored, my private messages being read, nor the tax rate I pay for my government services. And increasingly I hear this from all my peers as well. What the world needs are smaller, local and more transparent governments with more accountabillity to their citizens. But we will not get there anymore by voting for it. Governments these days primarily work for their own interests as opposed to serving the public. If not voting, what still makes a difference in this? The answer I keep coming to is: Don't fight the rain; get busy building and boarding the ark. Instead of fighting the system you simply leave it. A friend recently asked me for a simple way to track Bitcoin transactions for accounting purposes, so I decided to build this.
