The "open source" movement is rather an attack on freedom, rather than not caring about it.

No, I am not installing that proprietary GNU/Linux distro - as it is proprietary software by default - the installer contains a proprietary version of Linux, (Gentoo by default is free software, as the Gentoo GNU stage3 provided doesn't have Linux in it).

There is no "creator" of VLC media player. There several main developers and many secondary developers. As VLC is free software under the GPLv2-or-later, if ads were included, someone would go take them out and release a fixed version.

It is the *case* for all proprietary software - even if you pay, you get abused just as hard.

1GiB of 0's gzip compressed weighs 1018K and 10GiB weighs 10MiB. zstandard is smaller for the all 0 case (which is an odd case to handle really) and is 33K for 1GiB & 329K for 10GiB All of it usually transfers before the scraper crashes, but in the case it doesn't, the connection is held open and eventually times out, which nginx has no problem handling.

GNU software is not a propriety product. A copy of all GNU packages is available gratis, but companies do sell support and/or copies of some packages. When it comes to proprietary software, you are the sucker no matter whether you pay or not - you're merely a bigger sucker if you pay.

You can't see this, but most distributions of the kernel, Linux have LUKS compiled in, thus do encryption out of the box. Trisquel GNU/Linux-libre does support encryption.

It was never "TOR", it's Tor. In safest mode, I don't think it loads remote fonts and it seems there is a set of bundled fonts that are the same for all browsers, thus that problem doesn't seem applicable.
