Jared Fuchs proposed a warp drive solution that is physically achievable in 2024. Previous solutions required exotic matter, negative energy, etc. but this solution only requires massive amounts of normal, positive energy. It doesn't break causality because it is still subluminal space travel, just getting very close to the speed of light. The benefit of a warp bubble, even when lower than the speed of light, is that you experience no local acceleration. This makes travel at nearly the speed of light survivable where you'd otherwise deal with crushing acceleration, and it makes your clocks sync with the rest of the universe, avoiding nasty time dilation. But it takes like planetary/stellar mass levels of energy. There's some optimism that the mass-energy requirements can be reduced, but the world in which it cannot be optimized is scary: There could be a small civilization of aliens that discovered this, who decided that near-light speed travel is worth consuming stars and planets during their journey.
