That's not that hard and a powerful learning process. Hardware wallets are hard and not empowering.

Growing up on a farm taught me how easily a large herd can be controlled. One person can move hundreds of animals with surprisingly little force. Once a few begin moving in the intended direction, most follow. The real effort is spent on the handful that resist, break away and encourage others to turn. They are chased down, subdued and, if necessary, separated and isolated. It is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore the possibility that Bitcoin maximalism has always served a similar function. Bitcoin began as a challenge to systems built on monetary control, permission and unequal access. It offered the possibility of moving society toward greater freedom, fairness and human dignity. Yet many of the people who asserted themselves as leaders of the movement have replaced those broad principles with a rigid definition of ideological purity. Instead of centring the movement on the values that sound money can promote, they rally people around slogans, loyalty tests and exclusivity. The result is an in-group and out-group culture in which questioning preferred technologies, personalities or narratives is treated as betrayal. That is not intellectual confidence. It is social control. Bitcoin will always be under attack. The best defence is not conformity, but informed users with genuine choice. People must be free to compare technologies, question incentives, test claims and support alternatives without being marginalised for stepping outside an approved narrative. That is one reason Nostr matters. Open communication infrastructure can make it harder for institutions, platforms or influential personalities to control what people see and who is allowed to speak. But it is sobering to think that Nostr has been promoted largely by many of the same influencers who have worked to dominate the Bitcoin narrative. That does not mean they are all bad actors, and I am not accusing any particular person of deliberate sabotage. The problem is structural. Once a developer, company or influencer becomes dependent on funding, sponsorship or institutional support, they are no longer completely free. Even without explicit instructions, dependence shapes incentives. It affects what gets built, what gets criticised, what gets ignored and which compromises are considered acceptable. That gives independent hobbyist developers something many professional influencers and developers do not possess: freedom. They may have less money, less polish and less visibility, but they can pursue ideas on merit rather than on whether those ideas satisfy sponsors, investors or established factions. They can build tools that threaten existing interests precisely because their livelihood does not depend on pleasing them. So do not be discouraged when your work is overlooked while inferior competitors are heavily promoted. Do not assume that visibility proves quality or that funding proves legitimacy. Being ignored may simply mean you are building something that cannot be easily controlled. That is part of the struggle. Keep building.

Is there a template and guide for creating paper multisig wallets from coin toss or dice?

Azz
Azz 5d

Do you know any clients that do this? I have been trying to build an app to view highlights and comments on websites, letting users filter by different layers.

Marcus Karpelès wasn't a wanker, just incompetent.

Azz
Azz 6d

Yeah, it needs layers. The open social graph let's a web of trust be built, but it needs a private layer too. Concord is moving in that direction

Azz
Azz 1d

Yeah, but they would want to have a 1oo2 key to a multisig, other wise they wouldn't know if you just spent it and claimed theft. A better model would be a bank holding part of a multisig in a safe deposit box. No way for them to know what's in there to rehypothicate. But it stops wrench attacks and would have inheretence planning.

Sorry to hear

Makes me feel sick that as a community we were led to paying for expensive crap at the expense of simple and secure options.

Azz
Azz 7d

Yeah, but we have a social graph, and its not dictated by an instance moderator. I agree that nostr needsnmore work in this area.

Azz
Azz 7d

Sort of. At a simple level, as soon as people started farming, they created an incentive for violent raiders to come and plunder the harvest. Out of necessary they had to pay a government to recognise their ownership and provide protection. But once that government was formed their source of income was from extracting the labour of others. A neighbouring government that was more successful in harnessing citizens labour could overthrow and conquer the less extractive government. The government must demand a monopoly on violence, on an on until its a massive communist empire. But larger empires require more bureaucracy which becomes inefficient. Not all technology enables the violence, some resist it, like castle walls did before dynamite.

Don't trust anyone else's security. Not your entropy, not your keys.

Azz
Azz 7d

Not here for the Normie's. I think nostr's architecture is better and its starting to work well... Coincidentally when all the "Nostr is dead" FUD kicked in.

Azz
Azz 7d

It all comes down to the return on violence equilibrium. If you can be a tyrant, you must be a tyrant, otherwise someone else will be a tyrant to you.

Keen to hear how it goes

Thanks. Started watching it and saw the sponsors ads, lol. Right now my scepticism is off the charts

I think the timeline of the Reformation following the printing press is close to what digital fungable money following the invention of the internet will be.

Azz

Same

Azz

How? Genuine question. I have seen 0 templates for recording rolls and converting them to a bitcoin key or seed phrase ever on nostr or bitcoin twitter, but thousands of posts about hardware wallets.

Azz
Azz 25d

Dunbar's number. At the moment there people holding the protocol together as a single community. Newcomers either join the community or post into the void until they give up. We need to focus on educating community leaders that nostr is a tool that empowers them, and developing the tools to do that in a way that doesn't have the security flaw of corporate platforms harvesting their data and having power over them. Let nostr grow as thousands of communities.

Everyone who holds bitcoin has an incentive for it to do better and gain demand. The market will punish it for stagnating, then eventually the holders will punish those holding it back.
