During my survey of whether LLMs were right when they say that Microsoft has changed and is no longer an Evil Empire, 1% said they had changed and a few attacked my survey. The survey was really about asking people in the know, because I believe there are more knowledgeable people here about things Tech, then in most other places. Anyways, for those of you that think the Microsoft has changed, how do you defend this? - Windows Recall. - Setting Edge as default when updating Windows. - Edge cloning history from your default browser continuously. - Requiring online login to set up Windows. - Pushing Onedrive to the extent that people use it without realizing it, meaning they upload data without knowing it. - User profiling on Windows for ad purposes. This is just a small subset of what I believe they are doing which is IMHO wrong. Does Microsoft investing in Open Source mean that everything else they do is OK or is their investment just similar to what they did with the original Embrace, Extend, Extinguish? BTW, I remember having exactly the same discussion then about whether Microsoft had changed as some people believed they had.
