Its only proof of a simple mathematical model and proofs nothing about reality. If the precondition is already the assumption that the earth is a sphere, of course it will show you exactly that. What if all maps are wrong in the first place?

All maps you see are projections of a ball earth. If you put your great circle navigation paths on a flat earth map,they will become straight lines. Not sure how this is proof of anything. Trust you own eyes and senses is really the only thing you can do.

After thinking about it, it doesn't make sense to me at all. This shading effect, in your experiment was present for both plates, as the tree you can assume covered for both plates a similar minimal portion of the open sky, thus reducing their respective heatlos towards it, right. The visible shadow cast by the moon has nothing to do at all with it (according to NPC land it should even have a slight heating effect) , because it refers to shading against the firmament, similar as on a cloudy night it's warmer because it traps the heat.

I have to admit that this shading explanation does not sound completely unrealistic. I wonder how this could be further tested.
