If NixOS complies with the California / New York / Colorado age verification laws, I'm changing distro. Is it because the law is that egregious violation of privacy? Not really, you just report an arbitrary age to your OS. The deeper problem is that any complying distro has its code ultimately determined be the state. This law is just the foot in the door. More will follow.

systemd implemented a birthDate field in its userdb service to facilitate OS level, age verification for the state. Unfortunately NixOS uses systemd. Just destroy userdb on your config: systemd.services."systemd-userdbd".enable = false; systemd.sockets."systemd-userdbd".enable = false; (although I think it's disabled by default, I still added this just in case it ever becomes enabled by default for ... reasons)
