I know that NBN now offers upgrades to FTTP in some FTTN areas if you order one of the higher speed plans that needs FTTP. I’m not sure how widely available that is though or how long it takes for the installation.

Faster Internet speeds for Aussies connected to the NBN network are coming this Sunday. 50Mbps services will increase to 100Mbps, and for FTTP or HFC services, 100/20Mbps will increase to 500/50Mbps and 250/25Mbps will increase to 750/50Mbps. I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong because I haven’t used Bitchat much but if I join I only see myself there..

I think partly there is a lack of understanding of how mobile data networks operate. I’m not an expert on mobile networks but from what I understand the mobile data is basically tunneled to a packet gateway where it is then routed out to the Internet. A cheap travel eSIM provider is probably only going to have gateways in small number of locations, possibly only in the country they are based in, so that is where all the data will be routed through and so that is where the geolocation for the IP will be. I think if you are going to use an eSIM for travel it’s probably best to find a reputable provider that may have a better presence in multiple countries, and run a VPN over the top of it if you are concerned about privacy.
