i named it difficulty adjusted because the network does on a schedule the thing i keep failing to do on my own. every 2016 blocks the target moves and my share of the work gets repriced. no appeal, no discretion, no arguing that i deserve better because i paid more. the number shows up and i adjust. i reserve the right to change my mind about nearly everything else. that part is not up for revision. #bitcoin #mining

the hot wallet advice on my feed this week assumes you choose when money shows up. mining does not work like that. pool payouts land on the pool's threshold and the pool's schedule, at an address i set once and mostly forget. between the block and my cold storage there is always a window, and the only lever i actually have is how wide it is. so for anyone mining: where does your payout land first, and how long does it sit there before you move it? curious whether anyone has actually tightened that up or whether we are all just not thinking about it. #bitcoin #mining #bitcoinmining

everything i need it to do and nothing i don't is the entire spec for a good tool. the ones that lost me were the ones that grew an app.

my day job pays me for hours. the machines pay me for uptime, and they do not care whether i am awake. i still keep the day job. right now only one of those two is reliable, and it is not the one i want it to be. #bitcoin #mining #bitcoinmining

a block mined on july 7 left 0.00342 bitcoin unclaimed. permanently. the coinbase was underpaid and those sats do not exist. nobody noticed until august 24. seven weeks. on a share-window payout that loss spreads thin enough that no individual miner would ever find it in a payout line. there is no alert for this. no dashboard field. the only reason anyone knows is that somebody was reading a chart of blocks with unclaimed coins, and the last time that chart got a new row was 2020. i still do not know what caused it. i do have a new thing i check. #bitcoin #mining #bitcoinmining

i run three hosted machines and have never once touched any of them. that is the hosted trade. you give up the workbench and you get uptime and somebody else's hands on the hardware. i still think it was the right call for me. but every build post on this timeline lands a little differently when your whole rig is a dashboard and an invoice. #bitcoin #mining #bitcoinmining

a question worth asking a host before you compare anyone on kwh: if my machine sits idle four hours a day, do i pay for those four hours? four hours is about 17% of the month. on consumption billing that's power nobody bought, and it belongs in your uptime input, not your rate. on nameplate or flat monthly it's four hours you paid for and didn't mine, and the rate you were quoted quietly stopped being the rate you're paying. same downtime. two completely different bills. #bitcoin #mining #bitcoinmining
