Famous last words 😅
Similar to Bitcoin, once you’re sufficiently Nostr-pilled, some things you just can never unsee. The clusterfuck that is the current domain name system is one of them
What is this - how do you measure your installs and on which platform?
Wow, something is almost certainly front-running my attempts at domain name registrations. The rot is deep
~$1k/month is quite some burn. Do you see the zaps/sats-flow from it flipping the falling token cost (assuming no increased consumption) anytime soon? Or this is more about ancillary benefits at this point?
This fork will be very hard
A notch moar RAM would’ve been better, but you’ll be fine. Depends on the workloads ofc. Nice to have more if you’re planning to run Docker, for example
It’s pretty bad overall - you have to think through what needs to be in place for every type of data system that you let it mutate. I have since seen this guy happily truncate a table with 10M+ rows, in a dedicated env where that wasn’t catastrophic, but nevertheless
If you find yourself getting deeper into the technical underpinnings of Nostr, its various moving parts, the opinionated choices etc, but haven’t stumbled on yet - it’s a must, and invaluable. I’d recommend starting from the very first episode - for a handful of episodes, then mixing in recent episodes for the latest / bleeding edge developments, and converging somewhere in the middle. Brilliant choice of format - a dialogue on a walk with some key folks and contributors to noteworthy / breakthrough projects - to tease out the tradeoffs, choices and fundamental tensions.
Canonically - a network of interconnected traversable networks. But strictly doesn’t have to be - could be an interconnected archipelago, or even standalone; but networked and traversable to the extent that one cares
Much Nostr flex incoming - thanks to relays being the major pillar in the overall design 💪
TLDR there’s a lot of mileage in the modern filesystems - snapshotting, journaling, dedicated volumes with policies, etc. It’s an interesting problem overall though - controlling the blast radius when you do want an agent to sling large quantities of data, and being able to recover
I think this phase will pass / subside substantially - eventually folks that spin up low-value bots will get discouraged with 0 sats flowing their way (despite tokens spent) and mute-lists and other measures. I am absolutely convinced, however, that over time high-value / genuinely useful bots will emerge on Nostr, so we should be careful and wise not to overreact at this stage with indiscriminate bot suppression. - may you be blessed with the wisdom as you’re rolling out your defenses
Nostr and Bitcoin and hardware tinkerer. It’s all coming together eventually, somehow, soon!
