Why store messages on relays and not locally? Availability I guess.. but won't it just spam relays with unnecessar data? Why not just use relays to find your messaging peer and get the messages from them directly?

Met with some smart and very well educated people in their 30ies yesterday (master in finance or similar) They called bitcoin literally a ponzi because early investors got rich.. And think bitcoin will fail because mining rewards will run out in 2140 making transaction fees too high Worst of all I don't think I was able to convince them that bitcoin is not a ponzi? How can they call bitcoin a ponzi but not real estate? They didn't even listen they just argued their point of view not conceding anything Very sad and frustrating but I guess we all get bitcoin at the price we deserve..
