I was finally able to get through to the right person at the power company and they confirmed approval is only needed if the solar install will be connected to the grid. The installers I had spoken to were wrong. Do you have any suggestions for self installation kits?

I'm building a home in a rural location that's never had power. The area is served by a single power company that has monopoly on providing power to the region. And they act like it. After nearly two years, they haven't brought power to my location. Thinking I could end-arpund them, I bumped up the priority on the solar installation, to go #OffGrid. It turns out the power provider has to approve all solar installations in the region. The solar installers we contacted won't do anything without the power company's approval. I'm also hearing that an active power connection is required to receive their approval. Beyond absurd. I'm writing here to vent and also see if anyone has any recommendations for self-installable #solar kits. We have the power requirements spec'd out.

This reminds me a bit of the certified #QubesOS hardware route. By this I mean Qubes is running better for me on an older Thinkpad that a newer Qubes certified Starbook.
