If he tries to talk to Aerin quietly and they’re caught, she’ll be punished and the same kind of situation might escalate. Aerin is clearly exhausted and physically affected by the years of abuse she’s endured and she tells Túrin she will die in the wild if she goes with him. It is possible that the events in Brodda’s hall exacerbated her condition from the extraordinary stress and shock but even if that weren’t the case, something would have gone wrong. There’s just no good outcome for Aerin and it’s so upsetting. To the elves, he has no clear form, called only the dark rider, lurking in shadows and the darkest corners of the forests. He is mysterious and hungry. Some may never learn his true nature or even his name. To the humans, he comes to them in fair form, describing himself as the master of the sun, moon and stars, offering protection from the darkness he tells the Edain would devour them. He is beautiful to behold and his cruelty is stark in the sunlight. I imagine Melkor in this form to be uncanny, like whoever took Amlach’s place. Too sharp teeth and odd angles. His presence drained those who spoke with him, as though they had lost blood.
