They're actually not finicky really, until you strip one down. Then it's a massive pain in the ass not to lose a spring! I'm also no longer partial to any handgun with an external hammer - but grew up on the 1911 frame so have a lot of respect for it. I used to carry a 1911 Commander which is a smaller variant of the full-size .45 ACP frame.
