My latest tearing up strawman arguments about Bitcoin & crypto: “Once you’re attuned to it, the claim that ‘crypto has no intrinsic value’ or its like is everywhere, strewn about like so much flammable hay on the excrementally poor mainstream debate over the value, usage, adoption, and regulation of cryptocurrencies. This is altogether appropriate because, like so many other common arguments against cryptocurrencies, it’s a strawman clothed in authority and reeking of knee-jerk institutionalism and exasperated sophistry.” https://thecommonwealthperspective.substack.com/p/crypto-commentary-with-no-intrinsic-value

The world is taking money online, and a good portion of that is moving into digital currencies and cryptocurrencies while most of the dialogue in the United States remains perfunctory, fallacious, or plainly disingenuous. Innovators are innovating, adopters are adopting, and legislators are legislating. And it is all happening whether or not anyone understands it. https://thecommonwealthperspective.substack.com/p/not-all-crypto-make-better-arguments-cryptocurrencies-part-2

I like to catch podcasts or episodes that have Bitcoiners in them, but that discuss macroeconomics and global finance. I’ll try to catch and whenever they’re on, either together or separately. I find the analysis valuable and insightful, and since I know both of them understand both Bitcoin and the macro issues around fiat, I find it more credible.

Would help if they understood the difference between Bitcoin and Dogecoin, for a start. I’m too small right now—but let’s have more like this. https://thecommonwealthperspective.substack.com/p/not-all-crypto-make-better-arguments-cryptocurrencies-part-1

One of the nerdy things I like doing is picking an historical figure I find interesting to dive through quotes of theirs on BrainyQuote or similar and reflect on them, both broadly as well as in their time and place. One I’ve been sitting with the last 24 hours is attributed to Abraham Lincoln: “I don’t like that man. I must get to know him better.” It’s deeply at odds with some of today’s political and social culture. There is a tribalistic undercurrent of contempt. A pervasive and oft performative, “Find your tribe and shun the rest,” attitude. Virtue signaling and moral superiority. Lincoln’s statement is inherently curious about others and yet also deeply introspective. It asks both, “Why is that person so?” and “What makes me dislike them for how they are, or seem to be?” What if we change his first sentence? “I don’t like that person’s politics. I must get to know them better.” My, what a different country might we have if we more regularly sought to understand each other that way. We ought to practice that more. Stay curious and stack sats~

Aight. Sassy Cameron is here. Y’all want more of the mainstream and the stuffy Institutionalists to “get Bitcoin”? Friggin’, share stuff like this. Doesn’t have to be mine. I don’t care. But, SOMETHING like this. Tryin’ to fill a need.

You may get a kick out of this. “Many criticisms claim or imply relevance to all of “crypto” while mentioning non-crypto digital currencies and describing only meme coins, leading to many a straw-man argument, whether ignorantly or intentionally. That’s a mistake tantamount to criticizing the United States, the EU, the OSCE, ASEAN, China, Japan, Nigeria, and the Kingdom of Wallachia all in one broad “government” stroke as being unserious and having no real national authority.” “Not only are some of those supranational governments, some of those are not even governments, and the criticism really only applies to the Kingdom of Wallachia—which was explicitly established as a joke and has no pretense of being a government with real national authority.” https://thecommonwealthperspective.substack.com/p/not-all-crypto-make-better-arguments-cryptocurrencies-part-1

My latest, the first in a short series, “Not All Crypto.” Share this if you want to gently needle the people in your life (or on social media) who you can’t be bothered to explain the differences to, again. (No need to tell the Nostriches—I know you know. And come correct me if I get stuff wrong!) https://thecommonwealthperspective.substack.com/p/not-all-crypto-make-better-arguments-cryptocurrencies-part-1
