I had a convo with ChatGPT about the nature of reality and the risks of AI. It made me even more pessimistic. If humanity remains blind to the truths of idealism (transcendental and ontological) and pantheism, it will suffer catastrophic consequences. But apparently this is inevitable. The ultimate question of metaphysics is God. This whole thing is not about matter vs. consciousness, but about unfaith vs. faith. “How great a friend [the concept of] material substance has been to atheists in all ages were needless to relate. All their monstrous systems have so visible and necessary a dependence on it that, when this corner-stone is once removed, the whole fabric cannot choose but fall to the ground, insomuch that it is no longer worth while to bestow a particular consideration on the absurdities of every wretched sect of atheists.” — George Berkeley “We must return to a deeper origin, to a fountainhead from which all faith once welled forth in its particular historical shapes, to this wellspring which can flow at any time man is ready for it. When trust in that which is manifest and given in the world no longer supports life, then trust in the origin of all things must lay the foundations.” — Karl Jaspers “Faith is not a matter of the goals of volition, nor of the contents of reason that become purposes. For faith cannot be willed, it does not consist in propositions, between which one has to choose, it evades the programme. ... Faith is not a particular content, not a dogma—dogma may be the expression of an historical shape assumed by faith; but it may also be a delusion. Faith is the fulfilling and moving element in the depths of man, in which man is linked, above and beyond himself, with the origin of his being.” — Karl Jaspers “Pure immanence without Transcendence remains nothing but deaf existence.” — Karl Jaspers Each time I mention God and faith, several people unfollow me on X. Repression. There is a dark force in us that resists faith — the force of egoistic self-will, for “If there is no God, then everything is permitted.” Demonic arbitrariness vs. self-constrained freedom, i.e., evil vs. good. Egoistic self-will is self-destructive, it runs down the spiral of chaotic (often violent) willing and submission to the power of whatever worldly authorities it creates for itself, terminating in the power of machines. It believes that it wants freedom but, in fact, runs away from it into an abyss of unfreedom. “Without Transcendence Existenz becomes a barren and loveless demonic obstinacy.” — Karl Jaspers The ultimate question of metaphysics is God. The ultimate existential choice is between good and evil.

“The fact that millions of people share the same vices does not make those vices virtues; the fact that they share so many errors does not make the errors truths; and the fact that millions of people share the same forms of mental pathology does not make these people sane.” — Erich Fromm “What is normal in the psychology of the average is actually a psychopathology of the average, so undramatic and so widely spread that we don't even notice it ordinarily.” — Abraham Maslow “Society is suffering from a massive delusion called normality.” — Anthony de Mello “Normality is nothing but a mild form of dementia.” — Karl Wilmanns “Normality is death.” — Theodor Adorno

"Experience without theory is blind, but theory without experience is mere intellectual play." — Immanuel Kant Seek radical experiences and you will eventually see radical truths such as the truths of idealism and pantheism. Metaphysics is philosophical thought regarding Transcendence; its entire substance lies in the origins of the transcendent experience, and its seriousness lies in making that experience possible. — Karl Jaspers https://misharogov.medium.com/transcendence-cc0f54b91557

Modern man, in creating the world of technology and setting it in motion, signed with his own name a debt that he is now obliged to pay. Technology, his creature, turns against him, reduces him to its own instrument, and threatens him with destruction. — Julius Evola

According to Vasubandhu, the experiences of the denizens of hell are purely mental phenomena, like dreams. However, he says, the experiences of the multitude of beings in the hell realms are not purely private. They are private in the sense that the experiences are not experiences of anything outside the mind streams of the individuals that experience them, but they are public, too, in the sense that the experiences of the beings who “dream” their torments are correlated with each other. The things that the hell beings experience are determined in some fashion by their karma and their acquired dispositions (vāsanās). According to Vasubandhu, the same thing applies to our world. On his view, even our world is a Collective Hallucination. — Thomas E. Wood
