Article 1, section 8 has been problematic since the Truman administration. This is stuff Lincoln wrote about before he became president. I would prefer an effective impeachment process, a 25th amendment that could actually be used on either side of the isle, and a second amendment which protects the People from standing armies; but this is not the situation we find ourselves in. There needs to be a constitutional convention. This is not about partisan political bullshit. This is about words written in the Declaration of Independence. "Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just Powers from the Consent of the Governed, that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these Ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its Foundation on such Principles, and organizing its Powers in such Form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness."
