No, we just use Asciidoctor for parsing.

He said he's going to figure something out. He's in there, rearranging things, so it seemed like good timing to ask for a change.

Yeah, nearly peed on myself. LOL OMG ALMOST CLICKED THE BIG RED BUTTON AND I JUST WANTED TO SCROLL.

Silberengel

I made follow packs and put myself into them. Feels sort of silly.

You have to account for your users being drunk, high, tired, or retarded.

I've nearly accidentally deleted the list a few times, by tapping the screen too close to the button. Maybe not have it so prominent, to prevent fat-fingered clicking. It should hardly ever be needed.

Yes!

I wish there was some way to see the handle on the allow list. Difficult to moderate a long list because I have to go line-by-line and encode each entry in a client, to see who it is.

You have to generate the keys before selecting relays, as you use the keys to sign the relay list kind 10002. I mean, you could do it the other-way-around, in the client, but then you'd only have the list in the cache. If they cleared the cache, they'd lose their relay settings. We have an onboarding wizard that goes step-by-step, for the user lists, but the client needs to have good default selections. Otherwise, everyone really does end up with a relay list full of big aggregators, which is pointless.

Silberengel

No, they actually can't. Nostr is a protocol. Anyone can start a relay. Nobody can stop you from starting one. Takes like 15 minutes. I've got 9 relays running, at the moment, including one on my cell phone.

Silberengel
Silberengel 5h

Yeah, the relay settings are in the config. We also pull user lists, if they login, but we've found that user lists are usually band, lol, primal, and damus, so pulling in their lists completely degrades their experience and fills our network up with porn, spam and garbage. So, we might stop pulling in their lists.

I whitelisted everyone on my old follow list and then opened it up to paid subscribers. You don't actually have to write directly to it, as I stream and sync in, over the whitelist. It's a nice relay to subscribe to, as real humans look at the global. So, if you write to it, people immediately see your stuff and start responding. You don't have to be popular or famous or ubiquitous, to get interactions, on community relays. Just show up and don't be so gross that you get kicked off, again. I subscribe to a couple of community relays and I aggregate their streams, and look straight at the global in the client. I use Jumble for that, now, but we're building our own community clients, and I'll eventually use those, instead. People call this a "walled garden", but it's actually the most-effective way for a newbie to show up and get immediate human responses. If you put all into one gigantic stream (which is what Twitter and Bluesky and Primal and Damus etc. do), then people have to stick to looking at follows and lists and etc. The stream is too big and too gross, to look straight at it. Everyone ends up following the people everyone else is following, so the effect compounds. Follow packs and recommendation lists are just subsets of the people everyone already knows and likes (which is why I'm hardly on any). Users not looking at global is why other relays have such big problems with spam. The relay moderators/admins are also only looking at follows, so they often don't see the spam, or just figure out some way to block the spam in their particular client, but other people using that relay keep seeing the spam. That's why we only onboard people to theforest: no spam, no annoying bots, no hardcore porn, no etc. Only stuff we are willing to look at on our own phone. You can use theforest on any client and you never see any spam.

We just hard-coded theforest in, as the core relay. That's why it's a community app: everyone who hosts it gets to select the core relay.

That's their income, is the thing. And even if you substitute their income, you probably can't do so, indefinitely.

It's the people trying to build businesses, using Nostr, that care most about Nostr. We don't make any money, unless Nostr succeeds. Everyone else has already received their reward.

Silberengel
Silberengel 15h

Okay, that seems plausible.

You seem to be part of the borg, lately, rather than an independent actor. Maybe that's an unfair assessment, but if someone soon drops the solution to the problem you named, I won't make a surprised face. My opinion doesn't matter, tho.
