I'm trying to figure out if those are typos or if there's another layer here that I'm missing

fiddlehodl@nostrplebs.com

oh! this is interesting to hear. I've been curious about it but have read conflicting reports on safety.

fiddlehodl@nostrplebs.com

it's dense, with a ton of footnotes but if you are already used to his writing, it's probably worth a read

hahaha! I was (sort of) coming to my senses by 2020, but before that I thought Liz was great

He's really good. I read Medical Nemesis during the pandemic, and many of his predictions were uncanny.

Ivan Illich has a lot of interesting thoughts along these lines - basically that in the modern world people pay for goods and services which used to be built into community (child care, hospice, food, arts) Or which didn't used to be necessary at all because of the needs fulfilled by the community or the lifestyle (gym memberships, health insurance, counseling, etc)

cool! is that video the rendered fat with water and potash? how long does this store?

fiddlehodl@nostrplebs.com

it's hard to watch - I'm so sorry (And for all the Americans who think that isn't happening/can't happen here: I wouldn't count on it.)

oh no - sorry to hear this! beginners are definitely welcome on Nostr The bitcoiners on here have been through a lot of thinking (and pain) regarding non-bitcoin crypto, so you're likely to get some very passionate and opinionated responses on that subject. Please don't take it personally! and in any case the great thing about Nostr is that you really can create your own communities and algorithm. Look for key words and subjects that interest you, and build a great list of folks to follow. And if someone is consistently rude, muting works well 🙂

yum! I often roast marrow and then blend it with butter and herbs for a composite butter that we add to everything

Agastche. We have it surrounding one of our apple trees (with comfrey, oregano, chamomile and a few others). The whole area hums with pollinators.

fiddlehodl@nostrplebs.com

I planted this one before I knew to make a note of varieties of trees when I put them in, so I have no idea what kind of hazelnut it is, but I put others near it for pollination. It's out of the way for us and gets very little attention but is growing vigorously. We may prune some hazels so that they grow into small trees, but their natural form is a multi-stemmed shrub. There's a ton of interesting information about hazelnut/filbert in ancient Europe - UK in particular - and hazel coppicing over the years.
