But why do more dense things tend to move downward instead of upwards if not because of gravity. With your explanation would it not make the same sense if less dense things moved down?

If the earth is flat would it not still require gravity to pull water downwards? Which would mean gravity is real, which would also mean it would curve around a ball. Unless you have another explanation for why we stick to the ground on a flat earth.
