I’ve been digging into other Bitcoin L2s, and I’m starting to think lightning’s future isn’t about competing with them. It’s about becoming more automated, developing its own decentralized "mempool" of channels offerings and requests, an automated market for channels and liquidity. With more tailored options and channel sizes, all fully automated. Channels needs to become more invisible/automated for newbies and new bitcoiners. I belive we will also have more custodial wallets with limited transactions capabilities and fixed tops. Costs will be more explicit and more present than today because pricing will reflect real operational trade-offs. That’s fine. Microtransactions let us spread costs into tiny pieces, so yes, there will be lots of micro-costs. People is used to "free" stuff given by centralized companies. Some won’t like paying. But if even ~15% of Ayn Rand-style cost-responsible users adopt an efficient, automated lightning standard, the rest will slowly follow: They’ll want the benefits created by the people living in the value-responsible network. "people" will get custodial wallets at first then at some point after years, they might just get a node. How far are we really to be able to host a full node in mobile hardware? 10-15 ears? we just need some new mobile brand to appear, make an open source os, fork android away and make the mobile hardware bitcoin ready.
