Recent conversation I just had: Right but centralized power systems give you the rights that you'd otherwise have to give yourself I think this is also a lie. Who would be taking those rights from me other than a centralized power system? Sure an individual might try to rob rape or murder but I don't think the state is doing a good job of stopping that. Constitutional rights are all about trying to create centralized power but saying what it can't have power over (as long as your a white land owning male) It comes down to the definition of a right What are they? A protection of some kind Against what? Others What secures it? Force Are you personally securing it? If no, it's a right If yes, then it's "earned" And not a right I hate this reasoning, but I think it's sound Ok, but who's trying to take it from me if not centralized power? Individual power? So still power. Do you think centralized power is more likely to protect your rights or violate them? Protect them as long as you follow their rule set And that's the bargain human nature keeps picking Is this your actual belief? Yes, but I'm not saying that they'll give you a lot of rights Just that they give them And if you play nice, you get them And if you want more rights than the current power structure gives you, you need to secure them yourself Making them not a right A right is just some protection given that you didn't earn Or at least that's my working definition And I hate it But it seems accurate I guess arguing over the definition isn't the best use of our time. God given makes no sense if you don't believe in god. Right, but that's a totally valid other source of rights Valid logically Rights are given by God Secured by God Able to be appealed to through a collective understanding / framework of God MLK jr As an example Then if humans violate you can appeal to the higher ideal That's shared If you lose the rights you appeal to those with a shared framework And God himself Or be resigned That God knows best If they are taken Or have righteous battles to secure rights Totally logically consistent framework in my mind. It's a good counter definition That might make sense if it wasn't 30x 5 word messages 🤣 Steam of consciousness / stream of insanity
