Zaps are a fun novelty but it seems unlikely to sustain demand long term or bring in the demographics required to make nostr mainstream. I think the over emphasis on this feature is one of the reasons Nostr is failing as stated. The amount of time and energy people put into posts and publishing/engaging is dwarfed by the pocket change they get from plebs. Sorry but that's just the truth.
