😂 I am with you on the treat front 🤝 I don't know if dogs feel accomplishment from learning or if that is anthropomorphizing them, and they are mirroring our being pleased with them and the ensuing affection? Because even if we aren't vocal, we have so many micro-tells of our affect from a dog's perspective. I also think the biggest hang-up in clicker training is the human, not the dog. Not being precise with timing, not breaking down a command into multiple smaller steps, not being patient while the dog figures out what it is you are asking for (assuming it isn't too big a jump for them), etc. If clicker training isn't working at all, treats being ignored included lol, then the human needs to train themselves more 😂

Yeah, I think it is all about knowing your dog and what they value. Even within the category of treats, my dog has opinions lol. I reserve high value treats (beef heart, lamb lung) for rewards for things that I know are hard for him. I generally clicker train with treats to mark a behavior amd initially train it, then treat less and sub with words of affirmation or play. But really, Bo loves attention in all its forms. I haven't run into the three dogs I have trained being dependent on treats, but their personalities were quite affable and eager to please. I imagine that has a lot to do with it.
