Repentance is mostly overlooked by modern Christianity but it’s central to our faith. It’s good to see many waking up to the evil in the world. We should, God willing, impose justice on the evildoers, but if we don’t repent, we risk replacing old evils with new ones dressed in self-righteousness. Isaiah 5:20 “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!” Ezekiel 33:6 “But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, so that the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any one of them, that person is taken away in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at the watchman’s hand.” Psalm 94:16 “Who rises up for me against the wicked? Who stands up for me against evildoers?” James 4:17 “So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.” Luke 13:3, 5 “No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.” 1 John 1:8–9 “If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
