We trade our days for things we never need, Chasing approval, letting others lead. We build a life designed for someone’s eyes, While quietly losing our own sunrise. We work for dreams that were never ours, Counting our minutes, sacrificing hours. We fill our homes with things we barely use, Yet somehow still feel there’s nothing to lose. We chase the latest, the brightest, the best, Hoping possessions will give our hearts rest. We smile for people we don’t even know, Then wonder why our spirits feel low. We climb every ladder they tell us to climb, Mistaking success for the passing of time. We measure our worth by the things we display, While our real happiness quietly fades away. We dress up our lives in comfort and praise, But forget that our souls need simpler days. We spend what we earn to impress and belong, Then wonder why something inside feels wrong. Perhaps happiness was never far away It was buried beneath the roles we play. Life begins when we stop trying to impress, And choose what truly makes our souls feel less.
