I spent four months logging every Bitcoin purchase routed across VARA-licensed UAE exchanges: 2,270 fills. The finding that matters for anyone accumulating in the UAE: buying BTC/AED directly cost a median 63 basis points over the global mid-price. Routing AED → USDT → BTC cost 19. The fee schedules on the venues' websites would never tell you that; the difference is in the fills. Three more things the data showed: • The venue with the highest posted fee was the cheapest all-in 95% of the time. • The USDT/AED leg trades about 20 bps below the peg. • Hour of day makes no difference.
