Job, house, pension, bank account. If you live in Germany, almost everything you have hangs on one single country. That is a bet, and you never consciously placed it. On top of that, hardly anyone owns productive capital. According to the Deutsches Aktieninstitut, only around one in five Germans holds stocks, equity funds or ETFs at all. The rest rely on savings accounts, life insurance and the state pension. Those are not assets, those are claims against exactly the system on which work and everyday life already depend. In this video I show the most obvious second pillar: Switzerland. Why the euro has lost more than 40 percent against the franc since 1999, what separates the property guarantee of the Federal Constitution from the German Basic Law, and why a country that keeps its owners by name in a share register thinks differently about ownership. And because this video is not selling a paradise, the counter-calculation belongs to it: in 2023 this same Switzerland handed Credit Suisse to UBS by emergency decree, bypassing the general meetings of both banks.
