What relays do you write to as outboxes? (And why, if you're feeling inclined to answer that?)

I'm not sure where the challenge exists, unless you're talking about automating the whole process so that nobody has to do any of the work of vetting and moderation. In that case no, it's not there, but a Nostr experience curated with intention is undoubtedly there. I use it everyday & I've been spending a lot of my spare time over the last 6 months showing community leaders how to create these spaces. In ~30 different social clients, it only takes a moment to open any relay as a feed & browse its contents (and even look at its policies in some of those). Everyone has a relay list on their profile, relay links in notes are clickable in lots of clients, and relay lists are even shareable some places. Discovering & choosing isn't challenging, if a person can devote 20-30 minutes to finding desirable sources... maybe twice to double check at different times of the day, just to be safe. And I'm not frustrated, I would like to see ZapCooking hit 1k happy, repeat users before the next spring. I just dont think trying to compete with Tiktok and the like is a winning strategy. That's all... I'll shut up about it now. 😅

On my first computer, my favorite browser extension just added tiny people ballroom dancing across the bottom of my screen. 😅 I don't know why this reminded me of that, but it did.

There's no reason not to limit those requests to trusted relays that host clean content. You could also maintain a list of foodie , and/or your team and committed users (or a bot) could scan wider swath of the network & republish content... then blend these things into a feed with the client's home relay. Continuing to pull directly from public-to-write relays for the main feed invites in spammers, which is a much worse experience for everyone than some new user not having a first post seen because it chases off the lurkers, too. More and more, existing users are withdrawling themselves from public relays and blocking them because they don't want to get spammed themselves or they don't want their notes to be associated with the nasty stuff that ends up hosted there. If someone wants to see those notes, they can follow the spammy & nasty authors, who, by sane metrics, should be forced by the network into running their own relays for that stuff. That's kind of, in a strange way, the whole point of all this. Curated feeds should be strict and strongly opinionated, that's what makes them interesting and nice to browse. It's just really a shame to me that things like porn will randomly show up in a cooking app when simple preventative solutions exist and work.

What do you mean by setting up with no discovery? Discovery of what? And from where? By whom? Maybe I'm not understanding the problem. I would like to understand.

Any Nostr profiles created through ZapCooking or anywhere else can opt to join the relay, which essentially creates a quasi-account for that community and you can offer all sorts of membership perks that way.

Exactly this. Anyone that wants to browse and not really participate can still do so without creating an account, completely unhindered. You can even have multiple inlets, like a fee or limited membership invites for existing members.

Yes, I'll keep some fresh but I will never use this many before they turn & I dont have the means to just leave them outside. The weather is far too extreme. I doubt I'd use 20lb in 6 months anyway. That's almost a pound of carrots per week.
