IMO the FCC threatened ABC in order to take advantage of a market driven change (the firing of Kimmel for low ratings) as a tool to further radicalize the portion of the left that they still have influence over. There are some who truly see Kimmel's firing as some sort of proof that the current admin is fascist. Doing so creates a precedent for further expansion of govt power (future govt pressure for firing govt opposed commentators & a foundation for hate speech laws) while further priming the most delusional leftists for violence against what they perceive to be fascism. With the further goal of using any resulting leftwing violence as an excuse for gun control (under the guise of required mental health assessments) and increasing authoritarian surveillance.

The government does not really control the internet, they are arguably more dependent on it than we are. If they really controlled it then nothing they opposed would ever happen on the internet. Govt officials will become as dependent on bitcoin too & efforts to disrupt it will be as much a threat to their wealth as anyone else's.

That's not how money works. Govt buying bitcoin is transferring wealth & influence & purchasing power to the army of cryptoanarchists that hold bitcoin. It accelerates the decline of fiat & removes the primary power that govt has in their effort to control society. It ultimately removes their ability to print money. But it's so advantageous in the short run that govt officials will not do what is in their own long term best interest with regard to maintaining or expanding power & control.

If I am free then I cannot be forced to continue employing someone who celebrates the death of a decent person. If I am free then I cannot be coerced to fire someone who points out that men are men & women are women & that synthetic hormones & genital mutilation cannot change reality. An ideological moron (if free) also cannot be forced to continue employing the person in the second example, but cancel culture is an effort to coerce & threaten people into firing people even when they would prefer not to. It is possible that there are also some ideological morons being forced to fire people for the celebration of Charlie's death, even though they would rather not. But science & objectivity very much align with supporting the murder of innocent people being evil & pointing out biologocial realities being a perfectly sane thing to do.

The idea that discussing ideas at a university (the place where ideas are supposed to be discussed) is now dangerous is really just an indication of how propaganda & culture rot have destroyed universities & mentally broken much of the population.
