I have noticed this too, even on other clients, but it does seem to happen more frequently with Columba. It seems related to path request. If you have heard a node announce since you started the app, and the node is still online, it always works from my experience. If you haven't heard an announce from that node, Columba requests a path to the node from the network The response for the path request has been inconsistent for me during development and I wasn't sure if it was a network issue on my end. But since it's happening to you too, well, I guess I have more debugging to do ;)
It's live in latest pre release
In theory yeah, would require restarting the Reticulum instance though. At least for now, while I'm still using the reference python implementation, disabling/enabling transport mode requires restarting the process. My upcoming kotlin implementation won't
Try playing with nomadnet. The nomadnet nodes have no concept of what your resolution is when they send their page files to you. It's an intentionally minimal and concise format to facilitate reasonable page load times over Lora
Generally speaking, if you have transport enabled, the more interfaces connect, the more data can pass through your node. In practice, traffic passes through your node when it's the fastest path to a given destination, or when you are rebroadcasting announces. So on Columba in particular (or anything you're running directly on your phone) you may want to be mindful of this while using mobile data, if you have usage limits
Agreed. The only alternative is MeshChatX, which is web based. I self host an instance of that in my homelab, and tried browsing on mobile, and it's workable but not ideal. The whole thing just kinda feels like browsing web pages on a phone in like 2010 before there were mobile versions of pages
Very seldomly lol
I have been debating adding it to Columba. I have a mostly working branch, just u. My biggest qualms with it is that it's never gonna feel as native or smooth as the rest of the app, because of the aesthetic of nomadnet pages. But at this point I think I'll just go for it since people are looking for it
That was entirely the goal! Glad it's working for you ☺️
