in dice we trust
I rolled 100 dice and use passphrases that I created on an Mk4 around ‘22/‘23 I divided UTXOs based on KYC, no-KYC, and coinjoin what should I do?: - nothing; funds are SAFU with dice - send it all to exchange; fuck it - send each UTXO to a hot-wallet (Sparrow) - generate a new dice-rolled seed using my Q (f/w 1.5.0) and move coins there - send all UTXOs to my wife’s Jade
self custody should be vendor agnostic
a truly Biblical multi-layered attack on self-custody would involve scare tactics that force those who have perfectly good cold-storage into “temporary hot-wallets”, while the adversary coordinates a mass attack on trusted/credible hot-wallet services, à la Sparrow, Nunchuk, etc. talk about out of the frying pan, into the fire - do not act brashly
not your dice, not your coins 🎲
years ago I rolled my 24 word seed phrase with 100 dice and used passphrases based off that seed and I still this morning went ahead and wiped my Q (I have a spare Mk4, same setup), updated the firmware, created a brand new 24 word seed with 100 dice, and seriously considering moving everything there, with brand new RNG-generated passphrases I’m not taking anything for granted at this point
I have a loved one who: - has an Mk4 - generated their seed (w/o dice) in the last year - has not spent from the wallet - is tech savvy, but no so much in terms of bitcoin my course of action at this point is to guide them to do the following: - update their Mk4 firmware - generate a new hot-wallet on Sparrow desktop - send the bitcoin to Sparrow wallet - wipe their Mk4 device - generate a new seed, preferably using 100 independent dice rolls - send their bitcoin from Sparrow back to their “new” Mk4 this IMO is the lowest barrier to entry for loved ones that are/may be affected 🫂
