There is a source of latent violence that most people do not notice and do not want to admit. Promoting and taking pride in violence and coercion by the state against other individuals through the imposition of laws, taxation, regulations, threats, or direct violence to maintain political power and because they do not think like them, whoever they may be: individuals, groups, peoples, nations, or ethnic groups. Those with a statist mentality are violent in their very being and express aggression and violence in any psychological and/or physical form, so let's not be surprised that violence is rampant. Exchanges of goods and services are based on contracts that are advantageous to all parties involved, with no exploitation or profit-taking. ​Possession, Not Property: Proudhon distinguished between "property" and "possession." He famously declared, "Property is theft!" He argued that private property, which allows for unearned income (like rent or interest), is a form of theft. However, he supported the right of individuals or groups to possess the tools and land they use for their labor. ​Free Credit and Exchange: Proudhon envisioned a "People's Bank" or "Bank of Exchange" that would provide credit to producers at very low or zero interest rates. This would eliminate the power of traditional banks and ensure that capital is accessible to all. ​Individual and Collective Ownership: The means of production would be owned either by individual workers (for small-scale operations) or by worker cooperatives.
