The focus was on building open systems that protect freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, and freedom of transaction in the digital space. Technologies like Nostr, Bitcoin, and decentralized infrastructure are playing an increasingly important role. They enable people and communities to communicate freely, organize, and create new things without central control. It wasn’t just about watching; it was real work: thinking together, building together, forging strong connections, and taking home inspiring ideas that drive the mission around Bitcoin and decentralization forward. Education is key: Last week, Charlie had the wonderful opportunity to give a lecture in the Sustainability and Environmental Management degree program. At the beginning, the mood was noticeably reserved many people initially perceive Bitcoin mining as nothing more than an energy guzzler without any real societal benefit. An absolutely understandable attitude, especially in this field. As the evening progressed, however, perspectives opened up: Mining proved to be surprisingly versatile as a flexible electricity consumer, for meaningfully monetizing curtailment under §13k EnWG, for utilizing waste heat in district heating networks, or for stabilizing the power grid. A healthy dose of skepticism remained, but the students were visibly fascinated by the many sustainable areas in which Bitcoin mining is already making valuable contributions today.
