Today’s tomato, Utyonok This dwarf tomato originates from Russia. An early season tomato plant with rugose potato leaf foliage. It is a determinate type that produces loads of these 2 ounce to 5 ounces. An excellent tomato to take to farmers markets at the beginning of the season. A great plat for container gardens because they only get to be about 2 feet tall. The flavor of these fruits are sweet but tangy. They make for great addition to sauces, salsas, garnishes, or fresh eating.

Today’s tomato, Dwarf Arctic Rose 60 days from transplant – first offered to the public in 2012 by Casey’s Heirloom Tomatoes. Dwarf Arctic Rose is a regular leaf dwarf variety that produces oblate medium sized fruit that ripen to a crimson pink hue. The flavor is well balanced and sweet, and the variety is quite prolific. It originated from a cross made by Patrina Nuske Small between Budai Torpe and Black from Tula, named Grumpy. Dwarf Arctic Rose was selected and named by Susan Bailey and Sherry Shiesl.

Today’s tomato sampling, Campbell’s 1327 These tomatoes were created for the Campbell’s soup company. This is a mid-season tomato plant with regular leaf foliage. A determinate variety that will produce for 4 to 6 weeks. They are a heavy producer of these red tomatoes and are disease resistant too. The weights range from 5 ounces up to 7 ounces. A balanced tomato that leans slightly to the sweet side. A great tomato for slicing, canning, and sauces.

Everything changed for the better once I started using nets. It is a hassle tho.

I know, right! Pretty much every thing is in the ground now except for a sprinkling of mustard seed and cover crops as things get pulled, and garlic in October.

Not a very appetizing pic, but it was delicious 😋 lamb meatballs with tzatziki, roasted zucchini, cucumber and feta salad.

Salt it and let it drain removes most of the bitter.
