Another consideration is mixing filaments... the two most common, PLA and PETG do not adhere together. All your plastic has to be sorted by type. And by color if that matters. If youve got anyone mixing plastic types though, you're gonna have an annoying surprise halfway through a print.

When reformed, the filament is very brittle and prone to break. The quality most people can produce diy is extremely poor and not worth the time/effort. A single mishap (moisture in the filament or a breakage or uneven thickness) and the entire print is ruined.

Yes. Unless you're willing to invest in a lot of equipment. Unless youre running a print farm and do a lot of draft prints, it's generally more cost effective to buy pre-made rolls.
