If that's what you had in mind, then I wholeheartedly agree with you that that is definitely something entirely foreign to our own worldview and understanding of Christ and His Church. Having said so, there is a lesson here in how we must conduct ourselves during our worship and prayer. And while I won't point fingers at any particular parishes or parts of the world, there are definitely many Catholic clergy, lay leaders, and others that need to properly restore their sensus Catholicus!

This is one of many issues that strains ecumenical relations. While we can all start with some common point of interest (Christ, the Bible, etc.), things break down pretty quickly when it comes to worship and prayer. The things that we do, the prayers that we say, the devotions that we have as Catholics do not align well with the Protestant worldview most of the time. (Caveat lector: High Church Anglicans might agree on a few more points than the non-denom Christians you mentioned, but they're the exception that proves the rule.) To be clear, I'm not saying that we need to change anything on our side. If anything, the standard rule in Latin Catholic circles (lex orandi, lex credendi) should help to make clear to others exactly what it is that we believe as Catholics. Our prayers inform our theology, and that should be the baseline for where we enter any and all discussions! Remember, Evagrius is so often quoted as having said, "A theologian is one who prays, and one who prays is a theologian." We cannot have one without the other! #Catholic #GreekCatholic

Very cool! I studied German for years, both in high school and later in university. Thereafter, I ran into a bunch of Dutch, Afrikaans, and Flemish speakers over the years. For a couple years, I was even thinking about studying (remotely) with Stellenbosch University and had a grand time reading parts of their website in Afrikaans. This past year, I even had a student whose family was from the same region you're describing. He and I had fun comparing notes about his language and the German I speak.

Some Ordinariate Catholic contacts have said that their Ordinariate Use Mass is fairly close to the TLM in English. I do fully understand that it's not *exactly* the same thing, but it might be a starting point to show them what such a vernacular liturgy could look like.
