“Nostr bad, X good”

Most people don’t realize that recommendation algorithms are the root cause of an inevitable civil war. People naturally think, “civil war? That’s extreme.” Denial is natural when the truth is too painful to bear. But these kinds of things happen in a snap. These algorithms continue to polarize, naturally, as they are incentivized to specifically optimize for reaction. And this will continue to happen until an attempted assassination of a president, the murdering of a prominent political influencer, the normalization of a paramilitary executing citizens, and so on. And by the time we get there, people will want it. And they’ll want more of it too.

I’m finding it’s not really “worth it” to post content like this on Nostr, or even X for that matter. Every algorithm/audience has its preference, which is why this kind of stuff performs best on YouTube. But whatever. Here’s a video on how we deciphered Mayan writing. I find it interesting enough to share, but I mostly stopped posting this kind of stuff here

For what it’s worth, I’ve snapped out of the funk I was feeling partially thanks to you. I’m not one to give up really but it really is a huge pain in the ass most days.

Yeah but it still doesn’t make sense to me. I’ve sold products for $1, $50, etc but most people prefer just to not be bothered and continuously waste time scrolling on social media for months on end. Literally one of the most effective sales tactics I’ve had has been calling people out on their pathetic bullshitting of themselves. Often times it just doesn’t seem worth the effort.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong when it comes to entrepreneurship. I work on good products, make them super affordable, built an audience of 100,000+ followers, reach out to people who ask for what I'm making, make content that's interesting and there's like no conversion. Not to compare, but there are people that literally sell total crap and make a living off of it too. I don't get it.

I re-invented my link tree page to use nostr. Now you can instantly launch the language learning app or create a NIP-60/61 wallet to take with you across the education apps that allow you select recipients to effectively create scholarships through the act of learning. Why? Because on social media I’m often competing with the desire to scroll. So every single click counts because each click competes with the scroll.

I’m not really sure I believe in nostr’s claims of value for value over the long term. It’s rather idealistic and disconnected from reality. In most cases, people’s money is often people’s time. It’s their lifeblood. They don’t have the privilege of venture capital or other structural means. So in most cases, if you want 10,000 sats from someone, you’re more likely than going to need to earn it by providing a solution to a real problem they’re having. If I have $30 to spend on art and entertainment, is it really going to go to a post on nostr that I’ll forget about or is it going to be that one event or show in my city? The reality of business is ruthless but so is the exchange of peoples time and lifeblood for products and services.
